Your first step - Raja Yoga Meditation - technique
The first step in learning the raja yoga meditation technique is to sit. Sit quietly for some time and let your mind run on. You simply wait and watch. Knowledge is the power says the proverb, and it is true. Until you know what the mind is doing you can not control it. Give it the rein. Many hideous thoughts may come into it, you will be astonished at what it is possible to think. But you will find each day the minds vagaries become less and the mind becomes calmer. 2nd step - Raja Yoga & Meditation technique
Now Think! The second step in the raja yoga meditation technique is to think. Think of your own body and see that it is strong and healthy. Your body is the best instrument you have. Almost all our suffering is
caused by not having the power of detachment. So along with the development of
concentration we must develop the power of detachment. We must learn not only to
attach the mind but also to detach it at a monetary notice and place upon
something else. These two should be developed together to make it safe.
This is the systematic
development of the mind. To me the very essence of education is in concentration
of the mind, not collecting facts. If I had to do my education again and had any
voice in the matter I would not study facts at all. I would develop the power of
concentration and detachment and then with this perfect instrument I could
collect facts at will.
We should put our minds on things: they
should not draw our minds to them. We are usually forced to concentrate. Our
minds are forced to become fixed upon different things by an attraction in them
which we cannot resist. To control the mind, to place it just where we want it,
